Fed: Mums give foot spas the boot on Mother's Day
SYDNEY, April 26 AAP - Mums are under-appreciated and forgotten, with most Australians
even clueless about the date of Mother's Day, a survey shows.
Only 7 per cent of 1000 people surveyed by online retailer DealsDirect were able to
remember the exact date of this year's Mother's Day - May 9.
The survey also names the most unwanted gift received by mums is cleaning appliances,
followed by fitness equipment, foot spas and kitchen gadgets.
Last-minute gifts, such as flowers from a petrol station or convenience store, are
also unpopular.
Mums surveyed said their most popular pressie was a gift voucher, followed by a book,
CD, perfume and jewellery.
Pets are a no-no, along with feminine hygiene products and "anything rose scented".
Gift vouchers are the best choice for people unsure exactly what mum would like, says
DealsDirect.com.au co-founder Paul Greenberg.
"If you want to buy mum a present that shows you care, but you don't know what she
wants, a gift voucher gives her the choice," he said in a statement on Monday.
He says Mother's Day is an opportunity to show under-appreciated mums how much they are loved.
"Mums are the unsung heroes, giving their family so much of themselves and rarely receiving
any recognition," he said.
Of the two thirds of mums who received a gift last year, almost half (47 per cent)
weren't happy with it, with 15 per cent saying it was bought at the last minute, the survey
showed.
