WA:Stabbing accused attacked outside court

PERTH, Feb 16 AAP - A man accused of stabbing another man to death in Perth's entertainment
district has been punched and abused outside court by members of the victim's family.

Christopher Lee Brenchley, 23, is accused of fatally stabbing 23-year-old Russell Vivian
Stack in the chest during an argument in inner-city Northbridge on August 15 last year.

Police allege Brenchley went to Northbridge with his wife, armed with a knife, and
stabbed Mr Stack during an altercation.

In the Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday, relatives of Mr Stack hurled
abuse at Brenchley, calling him a "white dog".

Brenchley's murder charges were downgraded to manslaughter and he was released on bail,
prompting Mr Stack's family to hurl verbal abuse.

Outside court, family member Rodney Cox told reporters it made him feel "sick in the
guts" that Brenchley was facing lesser charges and was being released on bail.

When Brenchley left the court, reporters witnessed him being set upon by two men and
a woman and repeatedly punched.

Police say they are investigating.

Brenchley will reappear in court on March 2.
