NSW: Two-up to be played in pubs and clubs on VP Day
SYDNEY, Aug 13 AAP - Two-up will be played in NSW pubs and clubs on Monday to mark
the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Pacific (VP) Day.
VP Day commemorates the end of World War II in the Pacific, when Japan surrendered
to Allied forces led by the United States.
Gaming and Racing Minister Grant McBride today said the day was important to war veterans
and their families.
The government had agreed to a request from the Services Club Association to trial
two-up in pubs and clubs this year, he said.
"Clubs and hotels are important meeting places on special days of remembrance for diggers
and their families," Mr McBride said in a statement.
"And this Monday, if they wish to do so, they can feel free to indulge in a game of two-up.
"The tradition of playing two-up on Anzac Day remains unaffected."
