Vic: Flu vaccine breakthrough close

Scientists are reportedly close to breaking through with a flu vaccine that protects
against most strains of the disease.

News Limited reports the vaccine will fight all 24 types of influenza A .. including
the bird flu and winter outbreaks.

Two injections could give long-lasting immunity.

CSIRO virologist JENNY McKIMM-BRESCHKIN says the general flu vaccine could be handy
.. while researchers produce specific vaccines against each flu strain.
